Tata Motors has announced the launch of the Safari Storme in India. The new Safari was first showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo, earlier this year. The Tata Safari Storme might look quite similar to the current Safari and that is because the vehicle has the same dimensions as the old Safari. However the new Tata Safari Storme has vast changes underneath, which makes it a much better vehicle overall. Power comes in from the same 2.2-litre diesel engine which is now known as the VariCOR. This motor produces 140 BHP of peak power at 4000 RPM and 320 Nm of peak torque bwtween 1700-2700 RPM. This engine is mated to a new G-76 mark-II 5-speed manual gearbox and 100 km/hr is achieved in 15 seconds. The Safari Storme is offered in 4 variants, with shift on the fly 4×4 (with limited slip differential) being available on the top-end model.
Tata Safari Storme Prices – (on-road, New Delhi)
Safari Storme LX – Rs. 11.06 lakhs
Safari Storme EX – Rs. 12.39 lakhs
Safari Storme VX – Rs. 14.21 lakhs
Safari Storme VX 4×4 – Rs. 16.02 lakhs
The Tata Safari Strome gets a lighter and stronger ladder frame with hydro-form technology from the Aria (X2 platform), which is shortened for the Safari. The track is now wider and thus the turning radius has reduced to 5.4-meters, from the earlier 6.0-meters. Weight has also reduced and the Safari Storme weighs 2000 kgs (4×2 variants) and 2095 kgs (4×4 variant). Ground clearance is 200 mm. The 4×2 variant of the Safari Strome returns an ARAI certified mileage of 14 km/l, while the 4×4 variant returns 13.2 km/l.

The Tata Safari Storme is offered with features like front airbags, ABS, EBD, reverse guide system, leather interiors, roof rails, approach lights, etc. ABS and EBD is available on all variants. Tata Motors is offering a 3-years/1-lakh kms warranty on the Safari Storme, which can be extended by 1-year/50,000 kms (which ever is earlier).
Tata Motors will continue to sell the old Safari, positioning it below the Safari Storme as an entry level SUV. The Safari Storme was delayed as the company wanted to keep both the models together. The Safari Storme doesn’t have the spare wheel mounted on the rear door, however this can be added as an option. The Safari Storme is available in 7 colors – pearl white, black, bronze, red, silver, champagne and arctic white.
