UPDATE – Tata Motors has sent out a clarification that the public notice for this voluntary recall campaign was issued in December 2017. It was completed successfully back then and no fresh recalls have been made.
Tata Motors has issued a recall for the Tiago hatchback and Zest compact sedan to rectify a potential emissions issue. Both recalled cars are powered by BS4 diesel engines and the recalled Zest models in particular are cars fitted with AMTs.
In an official communication, Tata Motors said, “Being a customer-centric organisation and as a responsible corporate citizen, Tata Motors strives to ensure that its vehicles are emission compliant.”
The firm has revealed chassis numbers of the models potentially affected and part of the recall. So, the recalled Tiagos have chassis numbers between MAT626184GKF16560 and MAT626141HKB10162.
Recalled Zest models are of chassis numbers MAT624201FLD13319 to MAT624201GLC06228 and MAT624027GPD11615 to MAT624201GPE15201.
No details about the exact number of cars affected or the time needed to rectify the issue have been released by Tata Motors yet. We do expect the carmaker to contact all the affected customers in due course of time.
Customers of these cars can visit their nearest dealership or call 18002097979 to get the potential emission issue in their car rectified.
Tiago used a 1.05-litre diesel engine that produced 70 HP max power and 140 Nm peak torque, while the Zest used a 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet unit that produced 90 HP and 200 Nm.
A similar recall happened a few years ago and back then it was the same Zest AMT diesel models, but the other models that were affected and recalled were the Tigor diesels.
