Tata Motors Developing A New MPV? Tata Curvv & Sierra Launch Timeline Revealed

Tata Sierra EV Launch

Tata Motors likely to launch a new MPV, work in progress

Tata Motors has currently refreshed their lineup with three significant upgrades to their existing cars including Nexon, Harrier and Safari. The Indian carmaker is also developing new products for the near future to increase their market share.

The Tata Nexon, Harrier and Safari have got dramatic changes in terms of styling and new features on offer. However, the carmaker believes the upgrades and refreshes to the existing portfolio at best gives marginal improvements in the market share and that too is temporary. In order to grow the market share significantly, they need to introduce new nameplates.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors, has confirmed that the production version of Tata Curvv and Tata Sierra will be launched in the market in 2024 and 2025 respectively. Both the products are expected to come in both ICE and EV variants.

He has also confirmed an all-new product under development which belongs to a segment where Tata Motors is currently not present. He states that it is a distinct segment and they see a stable and a growing demand in the future. With this statement we firmly believe that it is the MPV segment where Tata Motors is currently missing.

This segment currently includes MPVs like Maruti Ertiga, Maruti XL6, Kia Carens, Toyota Rumion, Mahindra Marazzo etc. and at the higher end there is the Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Innova HyCross and Maruti Invicto.

Tata Motors is expected to introduce an MPV slotting right between these two segments of Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova. They might launch a wide range of variants to cater both commercial fleet segment and private buyers.

It will be interesting to see if they choose the same OMEGARC architecture or develop a new platform for this MPV to prioritise space and practicality. Tata Motors have had MPVs in their portfolio in the past but the products couldn’t survive well in the market. They had Sumo Grande, Aria and to a certain extent even Hexa but these products couldn’t make a big mark in their respective segments.
