Tata Midsize Sedan Confirmed, To Get Fastback Design

Tata Motors preparing a new C-segment sedan to rival Honda City.

Tata developing new C-segment sedan codenamed Peregrine

All the rumours and speculations that Tata Motors is developing a new midsize sedan have been confirmed. The Indian carmaker is working on a C-segment Honda City rival which has been codenamed internally as Peregrine.

Tata Motors is on a product offensive starting from the Altroz, Nexon EV, updated Harrier to the soon to be launched HBX and Gravitas. Next in pipeline is this sedan which will be based on the ALFA platform.

Altroz is based on the same ALFA platform which is quite flexible and can accommodate a midsize sedan. It is likely to get a fastback design unlike the conventional 3-box design. You can imagine something like the new Honda Civic.

The Indian carmaker could also consider a crossover body style with big wheel arches for a muscular appeal. Some styling elements could be borrowed from the Tata E-Vision concept.

Engine options are likely to be borrowed from the Tata Nexon, which gets a 1.5-litre diesel and 1.2-litre turbo petrol. The Peregrine could also get a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol which is under development.

The new sedan from Tata Motors will compete against the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and the likes.
