Tata Motors secures a design patent for the Harrier EV, signalling imminent launch
Tata Motors is gearing up for the launch of the much-anticipated Harrier EV, with recent developments indicating that the company has registered a design patent for the model in India. This move follows the unveiling of its production-ready version earlier this month, further solidifying its arrival in the Indian EV market.
Design and Exterior Updates
The patent images provide a glimpse into the Harrier EV’s design, showcasing certain distinct elements. Key highlights include a blanked-off grille, a redesigned air dam and a subtly reworked skid plate. Notably, the patent design exhibits some differences from the model showcased earlier, such as a new alloy wheel design, pronounced cladding on the doors and what appear to be roof-mounted lights. It remains to be seen whether these features will be standard offerings or available as optional accessories.
Interior and Features
The Harrier EV is expected to retain the feature set of its internal combustion engine counterpart while incorporating additional EV-specific enhancements. Standard features likely to be carried over include an Advanced Driver Assistance System, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control and touch controls for the AC system. Additionally, the cabin will house dual digital screens on the dashboard, enhancing the overall user experience.
Performance and Range
One of the key highlights of the Harrier EV is its expected all-wheel-drive capability, referred to as QWD by Tata Motors. The vehicle is also anticipated to offer a Summon mode, adding to its suite of advanced functionalities. The company claims a range of approximately 500 km on a single charge, positioning the Harrier EV as a strong contender in the electric SUV segment.
Market Expectations
With Tata Motors steadily expanding its EV portfolio, the Harrier EV is set to be a significant addition to its lineup. While official pricing details are yet to be revealed, the company’s continuous developments suggest that an official launch could be imminent. As the electric vehicle market in India gains momentum, the Harrier EV is poised to attract buyers looking for a premium electric SUV with advanced features and a robust driving range.
