Tata Harrier Automatic With Sunroof Spied On Test

Tata Harrier automatic is likely to arrive with a more-powerful BS6 engine soon.

Currently, Tata Harrier does not get a sunroof

Tata Motors’ latest SUV, the Harrier has been spotted undisguised while being tested on the outskirts of Bangalore. The test vehicle gave a glimpse of a sunroof, an automatic transmission as well as a BS6 compliant sticker on the window. The new additions hint that a more-powerful BS6 engine will do duty on the Harrier. The new powertrain will bump the power and a sunroof will attract more buyers. It is expected that the new engine will deliver 172 PS of power, up 30 PS from 142 PS that is currently produced by the motor.

The Tata Harrier is available at a starting price of Rs. 12.9 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 16.7 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom, Mumbai). As of now, there is no petrol motor or automatic gearbox on offer. It runs on a 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox only. Keeping in mind the competitive segment, the Indian automaker is likely to introduce a 6-speed automatic transmission sourced from Hyundai.

Apart from making additions to the 5-seat Tata Harrier, the company is also readying up a seven-seat version of the SUV that was revealed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The bigger, more spacious version has given up the name ‘Harrier’ and will be known as Tata Buzzard instead.

While the Tata Harrier rivals the Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Creta, it is also locking horns with some new kids in town, the MG Hector and the Kia Seltos. A sunroof, a new engine, automatic transmission and BS6 compliance on its beloved SUV, might just put Tata Motors back on the pedestal.
