The 7-seater Tata Harrier, known by its code name H7X has been spotted testing in Italy.
Tata Motors is geared up for the launch of the Harrier on the 23rd of January. The version that is being launched will be based on the ‘H5X’ concept meaning it will be a five-seater. Tata has confirmed that they will also launch the 7-seater version of the Harrier codenamed as ‘H7X’. While the 7-seater version of the Harrier has been spotted several times doing test rounds in India, it is the first time that the SUV was spotted testing in Europe, where it is believed to go on sale as well.
The H7X is even larger than the Harrier with dominating road presence. The H7X will be underpinned by the same Land Rover developed Omega architecture and will follow Tata’s Impact 2.0 design language.
The car spied was heavily camouflaged. As a result, it is difficult to make much about the design cues. But we expect similar styling elements like on the Harrier to make their way into the H7X. One can also vaguely make out from the spy-shot that Tata will retain the curves on the H7X, however the overall design is likely to be a bit more upright. Tata Motors have their design centres in Pune, Coventry and Turin where it was spotted testing.
The H7X will come with the same Fiat sourced 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine. But for the bigger and heavier 7-seater version of the Harrier, Tata is likely to bump the power to 170 BHP. Owing to chassis constraints, the H7X is unlikely to get a 4WD system. Tata will offer the H7X with Land Rover like drive modes to tackle various surfaces. An automatic gearbox will be offered from launch. In Europe, Tata may offer the H7X with a JLR petrol engine as diesel engines are facing heavy restrictions in European cities. Whether the petrol motor comes to India or not is something that remains to be seen.
As mentioned earlier, Tata will launch the Harrier on the 23rd of this month. The Harrier will be priced in the range of Rs. 16-21 lakhs. The H7X, being bigger and more practical is expected to cost a premium. The prices for the H7X are expected to be in the range of Rs. 22-25 lakhs, the vehicle will rival well-established rivals like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
