Tata H5X interior revealed in new spy images, will be a spacious 5-seater.
The Tata H5X concept at the 2018 Auto Expo turned heads like no other car did. Post few weeks of wrapping up the biennial event, the near-production version of the H5X SUV concept has been spied revealing crucial details about the SUV.
The car’s design instantly tells that this is unlike any other Tata cars we’ve seen till date. The SUV is long and retains the massive wheel arches from the concept. The heavily camouflaged test mule wears dummy lights and we would appreciate if the homegrown automaker retains the slim headlights even on the production model. Unlike the concept’s massive 22-inch wheels, the test mule here is seen with smaller 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels. The H5X shares its platform with the Land Rover Discovery Sport (codenamed L550). To keep costs in check, Tata might swap the aluminium bits with cheaper steel bits. That said, the company’s insiders claim that the SUV will use lightweight materials and the kerb weight is expected not to exceed 1650 kgs.
Coming to the interiors, we must say this is a spacious 5-seater. The dashboard (likely to be dual-tone) features a two-layer design and a touchscreen infotainment system. Also seen in the cabin are a new steering wheel, 6-speed manual gearbox and memory function for the front seats. The highlight of the cabin has to be the rear seat. While legroom is in acres, the rear bench, as per spy shots, seems like it could easily accommodate three abreast. There is also a headrest for the third passenger. However, features like sunroof and rear AC vents are missing but Tata is likely to offer them.
The production version of the H5X is likely to come powered by a Fiat-sourced MultiJet II diesel engine. The 5-seater version is expected to have the oil-burner producing 140 HP while the 7-seater is likely to get it in a 170 HP state of tune. Along with the 6-speed manual, a 9-speed automatic transmission (ZF-sourced) is likely to be offered. The SUV will be offered with the company’s own 4WD system.
