The Tata Manza and Vista are replaced by the Zest and Bolt in the company’s lineup and were gradually phased out this year along with the Movus (Sumo Grande).
With the Zest and Bolt keeping things exciting, Tata Motors has finally pulled the plug of the Manza, Vista and Indigo models along with the Movus (Sumo Grande) in its stable with production completely stopped. The cars have also been removed from the company’s website and were confirmed to have been discontinued. Now, only the Indica and Indigo eCS will be available from the automaker’s older lineup but are available for commercial use only.
Tata Motors has been sending its ageing cars to the graveyard, something which started with the old Nano late last year. According to the sales report by SIAM, 0 sales were reported for the Manza and Vista since July this year. However, the models weren’t great sellers since the early days and could barely manage to make a dent compared to the competition. The Manza arrived in the market in 2009 and despite being a spacious and fairly tech laden offering, the sedan could not compete with the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Maruti SX4 and Honda City.
The Tata Vista too with its tall boy stance and mediocre quality lost out to the Maruti Swift and Hyundai i10. That said, the Indica and Indigo eCS continue to perform well in the commercial space and the company has no plans of discontinuing them. Instead, the Zica will be filling in for the Indica while its compact sedan version will replace the Indigo eCS in the private car space. The company had earlier stated that it won’t be selling its new generation cars to commercial buyers.
Tata’s next major initiative is to improve presence in the country and the company aims to triple dealerships to 1500 outlets over the next four years. The automaker is looking to open around 200 dealerships during the current fiscal and will move in-roads towards smaller towns. With plans to introduce two new products every year, the next launches include the Zica based Sway compact sedan, Nexon (Osprey) compact SUV, Hexa crossover and a premium SUV positioned above the Safari. The company is also taking cues from partner JLR to improve quality on its mass market offerings.
