The Tata Aria is easily the best vehicle to have rolled out from any Tata Motors’ facility but the car has not managed to put the sales chart on fire. Post the poor show by the 4-wheel drive version, Tata Motors launched the 2-wheel drive version of the Aria, which showed improved response from buyers. But after the Mahindra XUV500 was launched, sales of the Aria have taken yet another dip. To push the Aria, Tata dealers are now offering a discount of Rs. 2 lakhs (cash discount of Rs. 1.6 lakhs and Rs. 40,000/- exchange bonus). However this discount won’t stay for long as it is valid for the month of December only and since car sales are usually poor in this month (most buyers want a new model year vehicle for better resale).
The Tata Aria is powered by a 2179 cc, DICOR motor which produces 140 BHP of peak power at 4000 RPM and 320 Nm of peak torque at 1700 RPM. The Aria is loaded with features and comes in a host of variants (both 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive). Although the quality is extremely good for a Tata vehicle, our readers believe that the lack of a eye-catching design and aggressive pricing has led to them not consider the Aria. If Tata Motors re-positions the Aria and makes this discounted pricing an official price cut (the base Aria costs Rs. 9.99 lakhs with the discounts), this crossover will certainly start to attract more buyers.
