Tata Altroz Turbo Petrol To Come Paired With Wet Clutch DCT [Update]

Looks like the turbo petrol model will be sprightly

UPDATESchaeffler India will only provide certain parts for the dual-clutch transmission of Tata Altroz Turbo and it will be a Punch Powertrain DT1 wet clutch unit.

The DCT gearbox used in the upcoming Tata Altroz turbo petrol variant is a 7-speed wet clutch unit sourced from German component manufacturer Schaeffler.

It is no secret that Tata is working on a turbo petrol variant to take on the latest-generation Hyundai i20 that also offers a similar variant.

We have come to know that a 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor will power the model and will produce 108 HP at 5500 RPM and 140 Nm of peak torque at 1500-5500 RPM.

While the engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, Tata will also offer a DCT gearbox option exclusively for the turbo model and most likely only in the top-of-the-line variant of the Altroz.

To ensure that its DCT unit stays free of gremlins, the carmaker has opted for the 7-speed wet clutch DCT from Schaeffler. The gear shift lever will be sourced from Lumax.

Tata is said to have initially looked at the 7-speed DT-1 DCT from Punch Powertrain for the Altroz for it is more affordable, but instead opted for the Schaeffler unit.

Punch Powertrain’s DT1 dry clutch DCT is intended for vehicles with maximum power of 147 HP and torque rating of up to 200 Nm.

Also, the Tata Altroz turbo DCT is said to weigh around 1058 kg, only 22 kg more than the regular 1.2-litre petrol variant.

Expected to get launched early next year, it will rival the Hyundai i20 turbo, VW Polo 1.0 TSI and automatic variants of other premium hatchbacks.
