The Tata Altroz will be launched in India in early 2020.
It seems like Tata has been playing a game of hide and seek with the Altroz since its unveil at the Auto Expo 2018. Though the premium hatchback has been delayed long enough, it is now confirmed that the production-spec Tata Altroz will be revealed in the first week of December 2019 with a launch scheduled in early 2020. The premium hatchback will be introduced with BS6-compliant engines from day 1.
Introduced as the 45X concept, the Altroz will sport Tata’s new Impact 2.0 design language concept and will also be the first Tata car to be based on the brand’s new ALFA (Agile, Light, Flexible and Advanced) platform. The car will retain more or less all the characters from the concept except the alloy wheel design and some other smaller details.
In terms of dimensions, though the Tata Altroz has the shortest wheelbase, it is set to be the widest amongst its competition with the best shoulder room. At 341-litres, the boot is capacious and at par with the competition.
The Tata Altroz gets a free-standing 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a new steering wheel, a segment-first part digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, etc. It might get connectivity features as a leaked document revealed a Google Assistant logo.
Under the hood, the Tata Altroz is likely to get 3 engine options – the 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated 3-cylinder petrol from the Tiago producing 85 PS, the 3-cylinder turbo-petrol lifted from the Nexon producing 120 PS, and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine churning 90 PS. The hatchback is expected to be offered with a single 5-speed gearbox at launch. An automatic unit might join the fleet later.
