Tata Altroz Spotted With Emission Test Equipment, Is CNG Model On The Way?

The retail price of CNG is very less in comparison to petrol

The Tata Altroz CNG variant was spied in Pune and could be launched soon

A development mule of what is suspected to be the Tata Altroz CNG has been spied recently in Pune replete with emission test equipment onboard.

Like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, Tata is also working on CNG variants of its existing 4-wheelers. The Indian firm has been caught road-testing the Tiago CNG already and is expected to introduce a CNG variant of the Tigor, Altroz and the Nexon too.

The recently spied Tata Altroz CNG development mule did not have any camouflage cover and the styling was identical to that of the petrol- and diesel-powered models.

Likely to be offered only with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine, the Tata Altroz CNG should be available only in select grades (the premium hatchback comes in 7 variants in total).

The Altroz has been a strong seller for Tata Motors

The 1.2-litre engine will make less power while running on CNG than it does when it runs on petrol (86 PS and 113 Nm). But, it should be mated to the same 5-speed transmission.

However, in comparison to the equivalent petrol-powered model, the Altroz CNG could cost up to Rs. 50,000/- more. Considering the high cost of petrol in India, many would likely be willing to take the plunge.

While the launch timeline of the recently spied Tata Altroz CNG is not known, the automaker could introduce all of its CNG variants at one go, like it did with the Dark editions back in July.
