Tata 45X Premium Hatchback Spied Yet Again

The Tata 45X premium hatchback has been caught testing on Indian roads yet again.

The 45X will be the first Tata car to underpin the AMP platform

Tata Motors showcased the 45X premium hatchback concept at the 2018 Auto Expo earlier this year and while the launch of the production version of the car is still some time away, a test mule of the hatchback has been spied testing in Mumbai.

The Tata 45X will underpin Tata’s new AMP platform and will go against the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz and the Hyundai Elite i20. The test mule is heavily camouflaged and reveals very few details. Being in its early stages of development, the test mule gets temporary headlights and tail lights. The test mule spotted was running on steel wheels.

Coming to the powertrain, while there is no official information from the company as to what engines will be used in the hatchback, it is likely that the 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel motors respectively from the Nexon will be plonked in the 45X. Transmission options will include manual as well as AMT gearboxes. There are also reports that Tata is considering a dual clutch automatic gearbox option for the vehicle. However, nothing is certain as of yet. The 45X is also likely to undercut both the Maruti Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20 in terms of pricing.
