The Tata 45X concept breaks cover at the 2018 Auto Expo, underpinned by the company’s AMP platform.
Tata has unveiled the 45X concept car at the 2018 Auto Expo. The 45X will form the basis for a premium hatchback that will go against the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and the Honda Jazz. SUVs and premium hatchbacks are the most sought-after passenger car segments in India and Tata is eyeing both (premium hatchback with the 45X and SUV with the H5X).
If there’s one word to describe the 45X concept it would be ‘drop-dead gorgeous’ (actually not one, make it three). The signature Tata smiling grille, slim headlights and the Y-shaped LED DRLs adorn the front fascia. The concept car looks sharp, aggressive and has a low stance. We particularly like the LED treatment on the tail-light. It looks fab! The car is likely to head into production by late 2019 or early 2020.
Since the 45X will take the form of a premium hatchback, expect Tata to offer all the bells and whistles a car of that segment should be having. The car is likely to come powered by the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol (Revotron) and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel motor that does duty on the Tata Nexon. Transmission options are likely to include manual as well as AMT.
