The 2 wheeler division of the Japanese auto maker Suzuki called Suzuki Motorcycles is often widely known for its super sports motorcycle, the Hayabusa which at one point of time was the fastest production motorcycle in the world. However there is another product from the same stable which definitely makes any cruiser motorcycle lover go weak at his knew. It’s called the Suzuki Intruder. The Suzuki Intruder is sold in the Indian market in 3 variants, the Intruder M800, the Intruder 1800R and the Intruder M1800RZ (Limited Edition) with the Intruder 800 being the younger sibling of the Intruder 1800R.
Both the bikes looks very similar to one another and a layman might easily mistake one for the other. However, for us mad petroheads, the differences are very clrear. The M1800R being the elder sibling is clearly evident from its heavier styling both at the front and the rear and a higher displacement engine. For example, the headlamps of the Suzuki Intruder 1800R have a higher droop compared to the M800 indicating its heavier nature and laid back attitude. The Intruder M800 is powered by a 4 stroke, liquid cooled, SOHC, V twin cylinder 805cc engine which is mated to a 5 speed constant mesh manual gearbox. On the other hand, the M1800R is powered by a 4 stroke, 54 degree V twin cylinder, liquid cooled, DOHC, 1783cc engine mated to a 5 speed constant mesh gearbox. The M1800RZ gets the same powertrain too.
The M800 gets oil damped, telescopic type suspension at the front and an oil damped, link type suspension at the rear. The M1800R gets the same kind of suspension at the rear but inverted telescopes at the front. The M800 rides on 130/90 – 16 M/C 67H tubeless tires at the front and 170/80 -15 M/C 77H tubeless ones at the back. The M1800R and the M1800RZ on the other hand gets 130/70R18 M/C 63V tubeless tires at the front and 240/40R18 M/C 79V tubeless tires at the back. The M1800R with a kerb weight of 347kgs is no mean feat to handle by any dimensions while the M800 with 269kgs is relatively easier to do so. The cruiser segment motorcycles have been dominated by and large by Harley Davidson. With Triumph also entering into this segment this year, the cruiser segment will definitely see some competition, and the Intruder with its menacing looks will be able to sustain it?
