Suzuki has launched its adventure sport tourer the V-Strom 1000 ABS in India at a price of Rs. 14.95 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Suzuki V-Strom 1000 ABS was unveiled at the recently concluded 2014 Auto Expo and we had told you that Suzuki had already commenced bookimgs of the bike. The V-Strom 1000 is being brought to the country via the CBU route with deliveries beginning by the end of this month itself.
The Suzuki V-Strom 1000 ABS is an adventure tourer and comes with rugged styling needed for an adventure bike. The bike measures at 2285 mm in length, 865 in width and 1410 mm in height. The bike gets black cladding around the tank and engine for the brawny, rugged look. The high positioned headlight gives the bike a distinctive appeal. Suzuki has opted for a leaner design language on the V-Strom giving it an agile look. The bike features an upright riding position crucial for comfortable long rides, while the touring screen offers wind protection. The tail light, turn indicators and fog lamps feature LED lights.
Coming to the mechanicals, the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 is powered by a 1037cc liquid-cooled, V-Twin DOHC engine capable of producing 99 PS of power and 103 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed constant mesh transmission. The bike comes with inverted telescopic front forks, coil spring and oil damped suspension in front, while the rear gets link type, coil spring, oil damped suspension. Stopping power comes from twin discs with radial calipers in front, while the rear gets a single disc. ABS comes as standard on the V-Strom.
The V-Strom uses an all-aluminium chassis maintaining the rigidity of the bike while bringing down the weight to 228 kgs. The light weight also helps in achieving a higher fuel economy of 25 km/l, while the bike gets a 20-litre fuel tank and a range of 416 kms. The traction control system on the V-Strom comes courtesy of Suzuki’s MotoGP engineering team and is also one of the most advanced features in the segment. The system has five sensors that help deliver optimum traction on different terrains and comes with two modes.
The Suzuki V-Strom 1000 gets fully adjustable suspension and wheels, handlebar grip heaters, adjustable seats and a chain guard. You also get a 12-volt DC socket and a smart three-part luggage system. Suzuki is offering the V-Strom 1000 ABS in two colour options namely candy daring red and pearl glacier white. The Suzuki V-Strom will cater to a very niche segment in the country, so do not expect volumes; the company is seeing it as a brand-builder. The V-Strom will be competing against the BMW R1200GS in its segment.
