Suzuki e-Every Commercial Van Project Gets Approved, To Be Developed With Toyota & Daihatsu
The Suzuki e-Every commercial kei van project has received approval for production. The concept was first seen at the G7 Hiroshima Summit in 2023. Let’s take a closer look at the details concerning the electric kei van.
Based On The ICE Version Of The Van
Suzuki currently sells the petrol version of the Every commercial van in the Japanese market and overseas markets like Pakistan. It is an evolution of the Suzuki Carry family, leading to the creation of the Maruti Omni in India as well. However, these vans are vastly different.
Styling
The e-Every electric kei commercial van carries a similar front fascia as the ICE version. However, there are EV-specific changes, such as the incorporation of the charging port mounted in the front bumper. The e-Every commercial van also has a boxy silhouette to focus on practicality.
In terms of dimensions, it will stay similar to the ICE version, which measures at 3395 mm long, 1475 mm wide. The height will be high, coming in at 1815 mm, ensuring cavernous headroom for the occupants. The ICE van is also well known for having a spacious boot space.
Features
It is expected that the electric version of the e-Every commercial van will be better equipped when compared to the ICE version. This can mean more space, features, and other premium features. However, no official announcements regarding the specifications have been made.
Battery Specs & Range
The electric battery size is yet to be revealed, but reports suggest that it will offer 200 kms of range. The motor should produce 64 HP, similar to the performance of the 660cc turbo engine. There is also an NA engine option that produces 49 HP.
Partnership With Toyota & Daihatsu
The outgoing e-Every commercial kei van has siblings, sold as Toyota Pixis and Daihatsu Hijet. These will also get electric versions. These models will be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform. It is important to remember that all three will be essentially the same vans rebadged as different models.
Outlook
The electric powertrains are jointly developed by the three automakers. It is a combination of Toyota’s expertise in electrification technology, Suzuki and Daihatsu’s prowess in compact packaging with maximum practicality. The electric kei vans help the brands to achieve their carbon neutrality goals, and the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).
