Maruti will soon be unveiling its S-Cross facelift. However, the car has been recently spotted on the production line in Suzuki’s Hungarian plant. The crossover has also been spotted up close in one of the spy shots.
The Suzuki S-Cross in India was launched in the crossover segment to take advantage of the rapidly growing fondness of compact SUVs in our market. However, due to its looks, which were somewhat tame compared to the competition, the Maruti S-Cross was never really a sale success. Suzuki has thus decided to address this issue by launching a facelift of the crossover which is expected to be unveiled in the next few months at the Paris Motor Show.
Renders of the Suzuki S-Cross facelift have been making rounds on the internet for quite a while now. Recently though, a production ready version was spied on a production line in Hungary, which shows that production of the facelifted S-Cross has already begun. The photo reveals most of the design features from the 3D render have made it to the actual car. The looks have been heavily revised, especially at the front, where we can see a much more muscular look.
The front gets an all new butch looking grille. The headlights have also been re-designed and now look much more modern and edgy than the currently sold S-Cross with projector units and aggressively styled LED DRLs. The car also gets a re-designed bonnet, and looks much more like an SUV now.
The side profile of the vehicle remains more or less unchanged, we can see a new set of alloy wheels and some plastic side cladding on the wheel arches. The rear of the car cannot be seen in the photos, but the SUV like design language might get carried on here as well. On the inside, as seen in the earlier renders, the S-Cross gets a new infotainment system and slightly re-designed upholstery.
On the mechanical front, the Maruti S-Cross has been rumoured to be introduced with Suzuki’s new 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine which will also make its way into the Baleno RS. However, for India it is possible that the 1.3 and the 1.6-litre diesel engines will continue to be the ones on offer. The crossover is also expected to get a new 6-speed manual transmission alongside the newer engine. With the unveil expected to happen in a few months, the flagship Maruti is expected to be officially launched in the domestic market next year.
