Suzuki Motorcycle India has categorically stated that it has no plans to enter the commuter bikes segment at present in the country.
Managing Director of Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) Koichiro Hirao revealed the above on Wednesday after introducing a new Bluetooth-enabled digital console on its Access 125 and Burgman Street scooters.
He also said that the firm would continue to focus on 125cc scooters and 150cc and above bike segments in India and that it has no plans to launch a 100cc bike currently.
The commuter bikes and scooters segment focuses on fuel efficiency and not performance. Thus, they usually come with smaller capacity engines and are priced lower, meaning smaller profit margins. Earlier attempts to grab a piece of the vast pie with Suzuki commuter bikes did not yield good results.
But, the firm is optimistic about the festive season since it witnessed improvement in sales over the past few months. In September, it performed better than same period last year.
Another vertical that the firm is aiming to grow is in its sales network. It currently has 530 dealerships across the nation and wants to increase that number by one percent.
Also, it is focussing on its pre-owned business initiative and wants to further scale it up. It is present at six locations at the moment and claims to have understood how the business operates.
