Suzuki To Launch Gixxer On 10th August In India

Suzuki is all set to bring its flagship mass market motorcycle for the Indian market and has scheduled to launch the Gixxer 155 in the country on 10th August. First unveiled in January this year along with the Let’s scooter, the Gixxer is a very important product for the Japanese manufacturer and is expected to be priced around Rs. 75,000/- (ex-showroom). Suzuki claims that the engine and chassis have been developed by the engineers who designed the GSX-R series of motorcycles and going by the looks, the new Gixxer appears to be a tough contender boasting of an impressive naked design, lean styling and a fat 140-section rear tyre.

The Suzuki Gixxer sports a brawny and masculine styling with a lean appeal. The bike gets a sculpted fuel tank that takes the centre stage in the design, while the overall lines are less conservative and more contemporary on par with the rivals in the segment. You also get an all digital instrument console on the Gixxer that seems to have taken inspiration from the CB Trigger, while the styling is reminiscent of the FZ Series. Nonetheless, the Gixxer looks younger, sportier and is expected to offer impressive riding dynamics courtesy of the rigid single downtube chassis.

Powering the Suzuki Gixxer will be a 150cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC engine that is expected to produce around 13.9 BHP of power and 13.4 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed gearbox and not the 6-speed unit found on the GS150R. Suspension duties include telescopic forks at the front, while the rear gets a monoshock setup. Stopping power comes from a disc brake at the front, while a drum brake setup has been used at the rear. Suzuki will also offer SEP (Suzuki Eco Performance) technology for improved fuel efficiency along with power.

A vital bike for Suzuki India, the Gixxer will help the two-wheeler maker consolidate a stronger position in the Indian market. The company till now was betting heavily on its range of scooters, while the GS150R turned out to be a dud seller in the 150cc segment. The Gixxer will be competing against the ageing Bajaj Pulsar, updated Yamaha FZ 2.0, Honda CB Trigger, TVS Apache RTR 160 and Hero Xtreme in the segment. Suzuki has already commenced bookings for the Gixxer, while deliveries are expected to commence immediately post launch. We will keep you updated on the pricing, variants and other details as we get closer to the launch.
