The Suzuki Jimny might be launched in India in 2018 as a replacement for the Maruti Gypsy.
The Maruti Gypsy has been serving as an iconic car with a huge fan following since decades now. However, with new vehicle norms kicking in the next couple of years, the Gypsy is possibly on its way out. Everyone has been speculating about Suzuki introducing the Jimny in India and now it seems that the speculations might actually come true.
The Suzuki Jimny could be launched in India in early 2018 and it will be christened Gypsy over here so that Maruti can cash in on the reputation and fan following that the original Gypsy created. The Jimny will also get features like airbags, ABS, EBD, etc. It is unclear whether Maruti will launch the 2-door version or an extended version here.
While the European Jimny gets a 1.3-litre petrol engine, the Indian version is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine that will make its debut with the Baleno RS in a couple of months. The Jimny comes with an AllGrip Pro AWD system with good approach and departure angles. We can expect Maruti to price the Jimny from Rs. 7-9 lakhs (ex-showroom) and it should be a hit with off-road enthusiasts.
