While the Indian audience just got a short glimpse of the compact SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo, Suzuki has launched a light commercial vehicle version of the Jimny in Europe.
It is a 2-seater version which comes with a flat-floor luggage compartment. It gets a safety cargo partition to separate the front seats with the luggage compartment.
It is powered by a Euro 6 compliant 1.5-litre K15B 4-cylinder engine. This motor churns out 100 HP at 6000 RPM and 130 Nm torque at 4000 RPM. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, there is no auto on offer.
What’s interesting is the fact that it comes with AllGrip Pro four-wheel drive system as standard. It comes with low range transfer gear.
The luggage compartment has a cargo capacity of 863-litres. Some of the safety tech includes Hill Hold, Descent Control and Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS), which is a fancy term for auto braking. It also comes with eCall, which is an emergency messaging function in case of a collision.
It has a kerb weight of 1090 kg, ground clearance of 210 mm, turning radius of 4.9 metres, fuel tank capacity of 40 litres and top speed of 145 km/hr. Suzuki claims a combined fuel efficiency of 16.40 km/l.
India launch of the Maruti Jimny is still under evaluation. It is said to come in a 5-door avatar specifically for the Indian market but there’s no trace of launch timeline as of now.
