Suzuki’s cruiser motorcycle Intruder 150 has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 98,340/-.
Suzuki has successfully tapped the affordable cruiser motorcycle space, largely dominated by Bajaj Auto till now, with the launch of the Intruder 150. What sets this one apart is its bulbous appearance and a host of features to brace the premium positioning. Also the first-ever affordable cruiser from the Japanese brand in our market, the Suzuki Intruder 150 price has been kept fairly competitive at Rs. 98,340/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Sitting 170 mm above the ground, the Suzuki Intruder 150 has exterior dimensions of 2130 x 805 x 1095 mm (length x width x height) which makes it slightly larger than the Avenger. However, a major differentiator between the two is the truckload of panels slapped on the Suzuki to give it a power cruiser stance. Surprisingly, it tips the scales at just 148 kgs which is exactly what the Avenger 150 Street weighs. Its 1405 mm wheelbase is lesser than the Avenger’s 1480 mm.
Apart from the chassis, 17-inch alloys, tyres (100 and 140 section for the front and rear respectively) and the instrument cluster, the 155cc powertrain is also a straight lift from the Suzuki Gixxer. Mated to a 5-speed gearbox, the air-cooled motor develops 14.8 PS of power and 14 Nm of torque.
However, the gearing has been revised and a bigger airbox is in place to bring the feel of a cruiser in its power delivery. The large fuel tank gets a mediocre 11-litre capacity but the frugal engine, rated at 44 kms to a litre, will help to extract a healthy range.
Even though the twin-port exhaust looks similar to that of the Gixxer twins from outside, Suzuki claims that it is designed differently for the Intruder. The suspension hardware consists of 41 mm telescopic forks at the front and a 7-step adjustable mono shock unit at the rear.
Braking duties are performed by disc brakes at the front and rear with Suzuki offering a single-channel ABS which works on the front wheel. Some of the notable features of the Intruder 150 include an LED projector headlamp, fully digital instrument cluster, LED tail-lamp, alloy wheels and comfortable split seats.
The Suzuki Intruder 150 takes the fight straight to the Bajaj Avenger Street 150. Priced at a premium of roughly Rs. 18,000/- over the domestic rival, the Intruder 150 does offer good value as it comes equipped with ABS and has a lot fresher design. When viewed in isolation though, we do feel that a larger motor and wider tyres would have done justice to its design and the ‘Intruder’ nameplate.
