Suzuki will launch the GW250 (also known as Inazuma 250) in India in the second half of 2013. The Japanese automaker has been toying with the idea of launching a quarter-litre motorcycle since quite some time now, but with most manufacturers deciding to bring one, Suzuki too has made concrete its plans. The above photo of Salman Khan riding the Suzuki GW250 in Lavasa only confirms the impeding launch. Mr. Khan is the brand ambassador for Suzuki and was seen riding the GW250 on the sets of his upcoming movie ‘Mental’.
Why would Salman Khan ditch his Hayabusa for the GW250? The movie ‘Mental’ is Salman Khan’s home production and Suzuki might have done a product placement. The movie releases around September and we expect the GW250 to be launched around the same time. Through the movie, Suzuki has found a nice way of promoting the GW250, which will compete against the KTM Duke 200 and Honda CBR250R in the Indian market. The bike snapped on the film set sports a MH02 (Maharashtra) registration number plate.
The Suzuki GW250 is powered by a 248cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine which produces around 26 BHP of power and 24 Nm of torque. This naked bike draws heavy inspiration from the B-King and weighs 182 kgs. It is expected that Suzuki will price the GW250 around Rs. 1.75 lakhs, with CKD assembly taking place at the company’s Gurgaon facility. While the name Inazuma means lightning in Japanese, the GW250 will be more comfort oriented, suited for long distance journeys.
