Suzuki could launch two versions of its upcoming GSX-R250 quarter-litre bike to address different types of buyers. The unveil of the bike/s is around the corner.
Suzuki’s quarter-litre bike is due for an unveil very soon and still there isn’t clarity on what to expect. Few reports suggest it will be called the GSX-R250 while the Gixxer 250 name has also surfaced. There could be multiple models and a recent rendering from a Japanese magazine has suggested Suzuki’s approach could be similar to Honda which has a touring oriented CBR250R and a more sporty CBR250RR.
However, there is a day-night difference between the quarter-litre CBRs as the older model uses a single-cylinder while the recently unveiled CBR uses a twin-cylinder engine. Meanwhile, Suzuki will use the same engine on both the GSX-R250F and GSX-R250R with the former focussed for street and the latter for the track. Suzuki does something similar with the its litre-class S1000 but one is a faired bike while the other is a street-fighter.
By developing two models, Suzuki could launch either in different markets or both, depending on the need of buyers. These bikes are expected to use the same engine that did duty on the Inazuma with tweaks for improved performance. The 248cc, twin-cylinder unit developed 24 PS of power and 22 Nm of torque.
Suzuki could also launch a quarter-litre bike with a single-cylinder engine, the underpinnings could be shared with the Gixxer and SF sold in the Indian market. This motorcycle could be heavily localised in India, with an expected price tag of Rs. 1.5 lakhs. Whatever it is, the confusion will end at the upcoming EICMA or Intermot motorcycle shows.
