Suzuki Gixxer SF Production Started, Ready To Take On Pulsar 200 SS

Suzuki has started production of the full-faired Gixxer SF. Some components draw inspiration from its elder sibling, the Hayabusa.

Full-faired bikes have been popular in India since a long time because the customers perceive them as sports bike and many of the buyers buy such bikes for their poser value. However, most of the faired cousins of the naked bikes have been sold at a high price which makes them unaffordable for many. Suzuki wants to tap this market and will soon be launching the Gixxer SF which is the faired version of the Gixxer and will sit at the top-end of the 150cc bike segment. Plonking a 150cc engine will help Suzuki price it competitively.

The Suzuki Gixxer SF sports a full fairing at the front and comes with a redesigned fuel tank to boost its visual appeal. The design reminds us of the Suzuki Hayabusa from more angles than one. This will help it gain a sizeable market share in the segment which is predominantly ruled by the Yamaha Fazer. The Suzuki Gixxer SF will be powered by a 154.9cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor that pumps out 14.8 PS of power at 8000 RPM and 14 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM. The engine is matched to a 5-speed gearbox. We expect the bike to be priced at around the Rs. 88,000/- mark and it will come in two variants, details of which are unknown at the moment.

The Suzuki Gixxer SF and the Pulsar 200 SS are both about to be launched and since both are full-faired bikes, there will be some competition amongst the two. One may argue that the Pulsar has a bigger engine and much higher power but the Gixxer SF beats it when it comes to being the cheapest full-faired bike in the country. Majority of the target segment of these bikes consider design as the biggest factor followed by fuel efficiency. This is where the Gixxer SF trumps the 200 SS as it looks better and will be more frugal due to its smaller engine. We think that those looking for performance alone will go for the Pulsar 200 SS whereas others will buy the Gixxer SF and save some cash in the process, while also getting utmost peace of mind.
