The final specifications of the Suzuki Gixxer are out, finally. While details about horsepower and torque were revealed earlier too, Suzuki has now put out the official figures without any +/- 10% accompanying the output numbers. The Suzuki Gixxer produces 14.8 PS of power at 8000 RPM and 14 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM from its 154.9cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, 2-valve engine. The motor is coupled to a 5-speed gearbox. The Suzuki Gixxer is priced at Rs. 84,344/- (on-road, Mumbai), the price is updated on the company’s website which is quite early as the launch is scheduled for mid-September.
The Suzuki Gixxer comes with a front disc brake but there is no rear disc brake on offer, not even as an option. The bike uses a 100/80/17 front tyre and a 140/60/17 rear tyre, similar to the Yamaha FZ. With telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear, the suspension on the Gixxer is similar to its rivals. The bike weighs just 135 kgs and has a seat height of 780 mm. Considering the GS150R is priced at Rs. 81,217/- and is performing poorly (less than 150 units are sold every month), the Gixxer is likely to replace Suzuki’s old 150cc bike.
The Suzuki Gixxer is among the most powerful 150cc bikes in the country which will definitely make it a hot favourite among enthusiasts. The motorcycle has high hopes riding on it and Suzuki is only a scooter company as far as 2-wheeler goes, its motorcycle sales are under 1500 units a month with the Slingshot, Hayate and GS150R being the least selling bikes in their respective segments. Suzuki seems to have finally nailed it, the Gixxer has the specs on paper with an attractive price to support, now all that remains is to see how good it is to ride on the road.
