Suzuki Motorcycles will utilise Suzuki-Toyota’s EV technology.
India’s 5th largest 2-wheeler manufacturer, Suzuki Motorcycle has developed a prototype electric scooter that will begin testing in the country by 2020. The company will work with sister brand Maruti Suzuki to utilise its wide distribution network which will supposedly become charging points.
Unlike some other companies, Suzuki is not waiting for the government to lay out the charging infrastructure first before they start working on their electric 2-wheeler. Instead, they aim to be up to speed and available as per the market requirement.
Suzuki Motorcycles will utilise Suzuki-Toyota’s EV technology. Both companies are also working together on small electric cars for India; first of which will be introduced in 2020. Besides, Suzuki is setting up a lithium-ion battery pack factory in India that will be used for these electric cars.
Taking a practical approach on this unfamiliar ‘electric mobility’ turf, Suzuki Motorcycle asserts that EVs might not be successful immediately. The situation will be monitored and the brand hopes that if not the first, then the third generation should be a success.
