Suzuki Baleno & Celerio Discontinued In The UK

2019 Maruti Baleno RS

Suzuki has not been able to recreate the sales success in the UK that it enjoys in India.

In India, the Baleno and Celerio are some of the highest selling cars in their respective segments

Suzuki is struggling to sell the Baleno and Celerio in the UK. This may come as a surprise because these are some of the highest selling models in India. The company has decided to focus only on their high selling models – Ignis, Swift, S-Cross and Vitara. The company is also preparing their range for the upcoming 2020 emission regulations in the UK.

Even though both the models are still visible on the company’s website, they will be discontinued by the end of the month with only some demo vehicles being on sale. On the contrary, one of the least successful premium hatchbacks in India, the Honda Jazz manages to outsell Baleno by more than two folds in 2018 in the UK. This only shows how preferences of customers change over different geographies.

The Suzuki Celerio and Baleno were launched in the UK in 2015 and 2016 respectably. The company has only managed to sell 15,000 units of the Baleno and 21,000 units of the Celerio in 2018 while in the same time frame the company managed to sell 55,000 units of Swift and more than 42,000 units of Ignis.

Coming back to India, Maruti Suzuki manages to sell 3000-4000 units of Celerio every month while the Baleno is regularly featured as the highest selling premium hatchback in the country, managing to sell more than 10,000 units every month.

– Suzuki will discontinue the Celerio and Baleno in the UK
