Land Rover has launched its fourth generation Range Rover in India. The new Range Rover has been re-engineered from the ground up – it is more luxurious, as well as more capable off-road compared to its predecessor. According to Land Rover, the new Range Rover (L405) is lighter, stronger and more refined. The company says it is the world’s first SUV featuring all aluminium monocoque construction, weighing 420 kgs lesser over the outgoing model (L322).
Interiors of the new Range Rover are spacious and more luxurious packed with loads of premium features. The car features full-time 4-wheel drive system, with a two-speed transfer box, working in parallel with the sophisticated electronic traction control systems. A plethora of systems ensure the Range Rover is one of safest and most comfortable vehicles to drive. The number of buttons on the dashboard have been reduced as well.
Indian customers will currently have a choice of the 5.0-litre 510 PS LR-V8 Supercharged petrol engine or the 4.4-litre 339 PS SDV8 diesel engine, both mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Land Rover will introduce the 3.0-litre V6 diesel variant in India around mid-2013. The V8 diesel Vogue is priced at Rs. 1.72 crores, the V8 diesel in Autobiography trim is priced at Rs. 1.79 crores, and the supercharged petrol V8 available only in Autobiography trim, is priced at Rs. 1.84 crores (ex-showroom, Delhi). While these prices might seem on the expensive side, utter craftsmanship doesn’t come cheap.
