The SsangYong Tivoli was spotted in Mumbai, near Mahindra’s office, completely uncovered.
After wide speculations whether Mahindra would bring in the SsangYong Tivoli to India, we spot the SUV at the company’s office here in Mumbai bearing a Maharashtra (MH 47) registration plate. The automaker has a plant in Kandivali which falls under MH 47 region. Mahindra had stated earlier that they will not be launching the Tivoli in India.
It is likely that the car’s platform is being tested, which will be going into Mahindra’s new compact SUV (S201). The X100 platform that is used on the Tivoli will underpin the S201 too. Exactly a month back we had reported that the automaker would be working on a compact SUV based on the SsangYong Tivoli.
Mahindra will not just make a rebadged version of the Tivoli and the new SUV will be very different. Mahindra will draw inputs from its own design division, SsangYong as well as Pininfarina for the vehicle’s design. Under the hood, it is likely that the new SUV will come with an all-new 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.
The Tivoli we spotted in this red paint scheme looked absolutely gorgeous. It featured LED DRLs, projector headlamps, diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED tail lamps. Internationally, the Tivoli is offered with 1.6-litre petrol and diesel motors.
Expect the new SUV from Mahindra to launch sometime later this year or in early 2018, and expect it to lock horns with the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano.
