SsangYong Rexton Recalled Due To Faulty Rear Driveshaft

SsangYong Rexton RX6 Test Drive Review

Mahindra is recalling an undisclosed number of its SUV Rexton. Those manufactured on or before September 2014 have been recalled for the rectification of the faulty rear driveshaft.

Sales of SsangYong Rexton have been poor with 7 units sold last month

For the curious but not so technical souls like myself, a driveshaft acts a bridge between some of the components of the drivetrain which cannot be connected directly due to the distance and/or the need for relative movement among them and to facilitate the rotation and transmission of torque.

The main objective behind this recall is to check the possibility of any potential loss of torque in the rear driveshaft. The company stated that the inspection and the subsequent rectification will be carried out free of cost for all SsangYong Rexton customers who will be contacted personally.

The company is terming it as ‘proactive inspection’ and that the recall exercise is being carried out to ensure a trouble-free experience for their customers. They also added that the recall was in compliance with the SIAM’s voluntary code of vehicle recall.

The happens to be an alarming development in the rate of recall by various automakers as a total of approximately over two million vehicles have been recalled in India since 2012 i.e the time since SIAM started the voluntary vehicle recalls for safety related issues in July 2012.

The government has imposed stringent rules and regulations for the above mentioned case. But such cases keep on occurring time and again. We do hope that car companies do their best to control such an outcome by outlining some very strict guidelines and standards as the consumer starts to lose trust in brands following such occurrences.
