SsangYong Korando e-Motion Enters Production

The new Korando e-Motion is due for launch in Europe by October

Following the Korando e-Motion, SsangYong will launch another electric SUV called J100 in 2022

Production of SsangYong Motors’ first electric vehicle, the Korando e-Motion, has commenced as the Korean carmaker accelerates its new car development programme.

Revealed as the E100 last year, the Korando e-Motion will be followed by another electric SUV next year, while an electric pickup is also on the cards.

The SsangYong Korando e-Motion looks pretty much like the regular Korando, save for the front profile that has undergone changes to make the vehicle more aerodynamic.

According to the carmaker, the electric SUV offers a spacious interior, which should also remain mostly similar to the regular version, and the convenience of a family car.

No details about its battery size, electric powertrain and performance figures have been revealed by the carmaker as of yet.

The Concept J100 is due to go into production in 2022

While production of the EV has already begun, due to restricted supply of semiconductors, SsangYong will only begin shipping the first batch of Korando e-Motion models to Europe by August where it will be launched in October.

The SsangYong Korando e-Motion will also be put on sale in the UK later in the year, while the launch timeline for the brand’s home market is yet to be finalised, for it depends on the availability of semiconductors.

Another pure-electric model, also an SUV that goes by the code name J100 will be launched next year, says SsangYong. This butch car will look more like an SUV thanks to its rugged styling and it has been announced that the development of the EV will be swift.

In addition, SsangYong has announced it is aiming to quickly end its rehabilitation procedures and look for a new investor that will commit to continuous future investment.
