Sportier, more powerful version of Kia’s upcoming SUV to feature a turbocharged petrol motor.
South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia Motors is set to introduce their first product in India. The launch is expected to happen around August 2019. The company’s first product will be a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), based on their SP concept which was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.
It has come to light that Kia is planning to introduce a sportier version of the Kia SP SUV with a different and more powerful engine. It is also expected to come with several design changes to suit the sporty characteristics of the vehicle.
Some of the differences will include a sportier body kit, race trimmed interiors which will make it stand out from the standard version. However, the main difference is going to be the engine, which is expected to be a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine which produces north of 140 BHP. The engine is expected to come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters. Apart from the design and the engine, the suspension is also expected to receive a different state of tune to match the sporty abilities of the vehicle. The 140 BHP engine is also being considered for future Kia models.
The standard variants of the Kia SP SUV shall be available in 1.5-litre engine trims in both petrol and diesel and shall be BS4 compliant, which also hints that Kia will have to update their engine portfolio by 2020 when the BS4 norms are set to come into effect.
Both the engines will be mated to manual and automatic transmissions as options and the automatic variants will come with paddle shifters for the top variants of the SP SUV. The upcoming Kia SP SUV is expected to be feature rich and also have competitive pricing in the Indian market.
