Sonalika has launched its first, and subsequently the nation’s, electric tractor at an introductory price of Rs. 5.99 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Developed in-house, the Tiger Electric is based on the brand’s proven tractor platform, but, since it is an electric vehicle, it has fewer moving parts, which will keep maintenance costs to a minimum.
Powered by a 25.5 kW powertrain, Sonalika says the Tiger Electric has a fourth of the running cost as against a traditional diesel tractor.
The battery of the tractor can be charged in 10 hours using a regular home charging point. If one uses the optional fast charging system offered by the brand, it takes 4 hours to completely charge the tractor that has a battery backup of 8 hours while operating with a 2 tonne trolley.
According to Sonalika, the Etrac motor present in the Tiger Electric offers high power density and high peak torque and ensures 100 percent torque availability at all times.
With a 24.9 km/hr top speed, the tractor, its maker says, assures better comfort to the operator, for there is less vibration and heat transfer.
With the world moving towards vehicles powered by alternative energy sources, tractors have to follow the trend eventually. The tractor offers less running and maintenance cost and will be lapped up by farmers across the nation if it proves to be a worthy tool in increasing yield.
