German automaker BMW has revealed the M2 Coupe which comes with a power-packed engine and will be launched in India in 2016, coming via the CBU route.
BMW has finally revealed details and pictures of the new M2, a replacement for the 1M Coupe. The M2 is based on the 2-Series and will be slotted below the M3 and M4. On the looks front, the M2 looks as aggressive and sporty as any other model from the M range. The styling is very dynamic and has a lot of sharp lines and cuts, that give the M2 a very distinct character. There are also a lot of curves on the body line.
Powering the new BMW M2 is a 3.0-litre, twin-scroll turbocharged, straight 6-cylinder engine that belts out 370 PS of power at 6500 RPM and 465 Nm of torque between 1400-5560 RPM. The engine is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission while a 7-speed DCT gearbox is also available as an option. The BMW M2 does 0-100 km/hr in 4.5 seconds and 4.3 seconds with the manual and automatic transmissions respectively. The DCT gearbox has Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes and it also has launch control and BMW Smoky Burnout functions.
The BMW M2 gets 19-inch wheels wrapped around light weight forged alloys. The Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres are 245/35/R19 at the front and 275/35/R19 at the rear. The vehicle gets an active M Differential along with new compound brakes with four-piston fixed callipers at the front and two-piston fixed callipers at the rear. The interiors have the typical BMW design with a lot of M bits here and there, including the lovely M Sport steering wheel.
The vehicle has gone on sale in the UK with prices starting from £44,070 which roughly translates to Rs. 44.17 lakhs. The BMW M2 will be introduced in India too and we can expect a launch in the first quarter of 2016, though nothing has been confirmed yet. When launched in India, it might be priced at around Rs. 1 crore (ex-showroom). The BMW M2 doesn’t fit into any particular segment and hence it has no true rivals. The Porsche Cayman GTS has a similar power output but it costs double than the M2 while the Audi TT comes with quattro unlike the rear-wheel drive BMW.
