Skoda Aims At 1 Lakh Yearly Sales, Undecided About Diesel

From 2025 the Czech carmaker has an objective to sell one lakh cars per year, with Skoda yearly sales expected to touch 18,000 units this year.

Skoda Auto is set to launch the new Karoq in mid-2020 and another vehicle in 2021. These cars will be 95 percent localised under the company’s India 2.0 project. Company officials have stated that Skoda has sold 17,244 vehicles across India, with South contributing 48 percent in 2018. Also, the expected sales this year is set to touch 18,000 units.

Skoda Auto had recorded low sales numbers in the initial 4 months of this year due to multiple reasons, one of them being elections. Although, the sales are expected to pick up and reach top-level in the second half of 2019. Skoda Auto is investing Rs. 8000 crores to open the company’s largest workshop in India and also outside China, SGA Cars India. The workshop facility boasts of nearly 50,000 sq.ft premium service area, equipped with 50 bays and a capacity to serve 20,000 Skoda vehicles per year.

The company might not be opening any manufacturing plants in the South but plans to increase the dealer network across 50 new cities by two folds, including the South in the next three years. The Czech brand also might get into the electric vehicle segment once the proper infrastructure is set-up in India. There is no news on halting the production of diesel cars as per the officials at the company.
