Skoda is all set to re-enter the premium hatchback segment by launching the new Fabia. While pictures of test mules of the new Fabia have been seen floating around the web since a long time, nothing official was known about the vehicle. Skoda has now revealed an official sketch of the premium hatchback that displays the styling philosophy of the new model. Skoda claims that the design of the new Fabia has been derived from the VisionC concept along with some extra help from Skoda Motorsport.
At first glance, the new Fabia looks typical Skoda. The grille, headlamps and sleek profile scream out that it’s a product from the Czech automaker’s stable. The overall styling silhouette may look similar to the outgoing Fabia but that doesn’t mean Skoda engineers have taken the new Fabia lightly. A lot of improvements have been made to the vehicle in terms of design as well as driving characteristics. The new Skoda Fabia gains 9 cms in width and loses its height by 3 cms. These new dimensions will ensure that the hatchback’s handling capabilities will improve.
The new Skoda Fabia will also come with significantly revamped interiors. While pictures of the interiors have not yet been revealed, we can expect a completely new dashboard, new steering wheel (maybe borrowed from other Skoda vehicles), more space and better comfort. Engine options for the global version of the Fabia include 1.0-litre, 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre TSI petrol engines and a new 1.4-litre 3-cylinder diesel engine. Skoda might launch the new Fabia in India and the Indian version of the hatchback will come with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and the new 1.5-litre TDI diesel unit, both of which power the current generation Volkswagen Polo.
