Skoda has renamed the Rapid Monte Carlo edition as the Rapid Edition X in India.
Skoda had to halt the sales of the Rapid Monte Carlo edition in India owing to a lawsuit filed by Chandigarh-based Monte Carlo Apparels against the carmaker for trademark infringement. The court ruling has forced Skoda from advertising and selling products with the name ‘Monte Carlo’.
However, Skoda now has rebadged the Rapid Monte Carlo as Rapid Edition X in India. An advertisement published in a local newspaper confirms the same. The Edition X gets all the unique and exclusive features that the Monte Carlo edition got. Exterior highlights include a sporty black front grille, 16-inch smoked alloy wheels, blackened ORVMs housing, black roof, tailgate spoiler and a grained diffuser.
Compared to the regular Rapid, the interior of the Edition X gets a flat-bottom steering wheel, red and black leather seats, an all-black interior with red contrast stitching on the steering wheel and gear knob, and ribbed stainless steel foot pedals. There is also a 6.5-inch ‘Drive’ touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity.
The Edition X continues to be powered by the same 1.6-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The 1.6 petrol produces 105 HP and 153 Nm of torque while the 1.5 diesel makes 110 HP and 250 Nm of torque. While both engines come matched to a 5-speed manual transmission, the petrol variant can be had with a 6-speed tiptronic (torque converter) transmission while the diesel variant is available with the 7-speed dual-clutch (DSG) automatic.
The Monte Carlo edition was priced at Rs. 10.75 lakhs for the petrol manual and Rs. 12.46 lakhs for the diesel manual (both prices, ex-showroom) and we expect the Edition X also to retail at the same prices.
