Skoda Auto India has launched the Rapid AT at a starting price tag of Rs. 9.49 lakhs (ex-showroom) in India. Deliveries of the sedan will commence from tomorrow onwards.
Above stated price is for the Rider Plus AT variant, a Rs. 1.50 lakh price hike over the same variant equipped with a manual gearbox. Top-of-the-line Monte Carlo AT variant is priced at Rs. 13.29 lakhs (ex-showroom). In comparison, the manual variants are priced between Rs. 7.49 lakhs and Rs. 11.79 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The Czech firm had commenced bookings for the car last month and customers can book the motor for Rs. 25,000/- either online or at the firm’s authorised dealerships.
Base Rider variant offered with the manual has not received the automatic gearbox, with Skoda choosing to go with the slightly better equipped Rider Plus variant, making it the base AT variant.
Biggest news with launch of the Rapid AT, however, is that the C-segment sedan does not come with a DSG as the firm has opted to use a 6-speed torque converter unit instead.
It is mated to the only engine on offer with the Rapid, which is the 1.0-litre TSI, 3-cylinder petrol motor that churns out 110 PS of top power and 175 Nm maximum torque.
Official claimed fuel efficiency figure for the engine and AT combo is 16.24 km/l, which, Skoda claims, is 9 percent more than what the now discontinued 1.6-litre MPI petrol managed to offer.
Features offered on the car have not been touched and thus the Skoda Rapid AT price hike might seem a bit too steep for some. But, it does undercut its rivals and will likely appeal to those who want a solid sedan with an auto gearbox.
