2024 Skoda Octavia Facelift

Skoda Octavia diesel returns to India in September as a UK-spec CBU model

Skoda Auto India is gearing up to reintroduce the Octavia sedan to the Indian market and this time, a diesel variant will be part of the lineup. After a five-year absence, the Volkswagen Group’s diesel powertrains are making a return, with the Octavia diesel expected to arrive in time for the festive season.

UK-Spec Diesel Octavia

Skoda Auto India’s brand director, confirmed that the diesel-powered Octavia will be brought to India as a Completely Built Unit under the government’s GSR 870 rule. Notably, the model arriving in India will be identical to the one currently available in the UK market.

Powertrain and Features

The India-bound Octavia diesel will feature a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine producing 150 HP, coupled with an automatic gearbox as standard. While further details about the trim levels and features are yet to be disclosed, Skoda is currently deliberating on the pricing strategy for the model.

Expected Launch and Positioning

The Octavia diesel is slated for a late September launch, just ahead of the festive season. Given that it will be imported as a CBU, pricing is expected to be on the premium side. However, with the growing demand for diesel sedans among enthusiasts and long-distance travelers, Skoda appears optimistic about its reintroduction.

This move marks a significant shift for Skoda in India, where diesel engines were previously phased out by the Volkswagen Group. With its return, the Octavia diesel will likely cater to buyers seeking a blend of performance, efficiency and European build quality in the executive sedan segment.
