Skoda has silently launched the Ambition variants of the Superb, which are now the entry level variants of the Superb. These variants lose some features and thus are priced lower, with the petrol Superb Ambition being priced at Rs. 18 lakh and the diesel Superb Ambition being priced at Rs. 22.5 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The Skoda Superb Ambition loses headlamp washers, projector headlights, front proximity sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system touchscreen audio system and 6-CD changer. This new variant has been brought in to counter the recently launched 2012 Hyundai Sonata we suppose.
What the Skoda Superb Ambition still offers the buyers is a host of safety features including 8-airbags, ABS, EBD, TCS, ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation). The USP of the Superb stays as the Ambition variant will offer occupants with class leading space and fantastic ride quality. The petrol Superb Ambition is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine which produces 160 BHP of peak power at 4500 RPM and 250 Nm of peak torque at 1500 RPM. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The diesel Superb Ambition is powered by the 2.0-litre TDI unit which produces 140 BHP of peak power at 4200 RPM and 320 Nm of peak torque between 1750-2500 RPM. This engine is mated to a 6-speed DSG transmission.
With the cut price variant of the Skoda Superb in the market, the Czech automaker can expect to bring value conscious buyers to its showroom. The Superb was expected to get lower priced variants from the time of the Rapid launch but we are unaware what took so long for the company to release this model. Skoda will be doing a hard launch of the Superb Ambition on the 18th of this month and we will bring you all the details with pictures then.
