Skoda has launched a limited edition of the Rapid, called the Rapid Leisure Edition which is priced at Rs. 9.06 lakhs for the diesel variant. The petrol Rapid Leisure edition is priced at Rs. 7.79 lakhs while the petrol automatic is priced at Rs. 8.80 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The current market conditions are making manufacturers launch limited edition models to push sales. The Skoda Rapid Leisure Edition gets a special badge along with portable navigation system, rear view camera, rear parking sensors, 15-inch alloy wheels, door sill covers and leatherette seat covers.
The Rapid has been doing decent numbers for Skoda and the company is focussing on increasing its sales as the Rapid is the cheapest Skoda car in India today. The Czech automaker has discontinued the Fabia earlier this year due to poor demand. Powering the Skoda Rapid is a 1.6-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel engine which ouptput 105 PS each. The diesel engine is torquier with 250 Nm of torque, while the petrol engine produces 153 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the petrol is also offered with a 6-speed autobox.
The Skoda Rapid is a good car for those looking for a solid vehicle with good dynamics. The Rapid handles very well and both engines offer good amount of power. This Skoda is based on the Volkswagen Vento but gets new design on both the exterior and interior. Mechanically both cars are identical and the Rapid comes in cheaper due to some features being less in it. With the launch of the Ford EcoSport, many sedan buyers will be tempted to opt for the compact SUV. Thus limited edition models might help automakers to lure buyers.
