Skoda Kylaq name officially announced for the sub 4 metre SUV, launch in 2025
Skoda Kylaq, pronounced as (Kai-lak), is the official name for the upcoming compact SUV. The name has been derived from Sanskrit word for crystal (Kailash). It is based on the same MQB A0 IN platform which underpins the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia. However, the Kylaq will be a sub 4 metre compact SUV, positioned as an entry level product for Skoda in India.
The winner of this naming contest will be the first owner of the Skoda Kylaq when it hits roads in 2025. Another 10 winners will visit Skoda Auto in Prague with a tour of the Skoda Museum and of the city.
We have spotted the test mule of the Kylaq multiple times across different states in India. It will get a new design language. Skoda says it will be the company’s first implementation of the Modern Solid design language in India.
They claim it will have a high ground clearance and space around the wheel for tackling uneven road surfaces lending the car that SUV character. The design will retain the typical Skoda SUV language and add details like DRL light signatures. The Kylaq will also feature a hexagon pattern on the side and rear of the car.
The interior too is expected to get an all-new look with a minimalistic approach. It is expected to get a completely new dashboard with a floating touchscreen infotainment system along with an all-digital instrument cluster. We can expect modern day features like wireless phone charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 360 degree camera, sunroof, etc.
The Skoda Kylaq will get heavy localisation in India to keep the costs in check. It will be powered by the 1.0-litre TSI, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
