Skoda Kushaq 7-seater version planned with new platform
Skoda is reportedly exploring a new direction for Kushaq, eyeing a three-row, seven-seater configuration for its next generation. The new model is anticipated to arrive in 2027, likely underpinned by an updated platform, marking a significant step in Skoda’s expansion strategy for the Kushaq lineup.
Long-Term Strategy
Skoda’s next generation Kushaq would arrive about six years after the current model’s debut. By then, the SUV will likely have seen at least one facelift, with a possible mid-life update expected in the near future. The potential move to a three-row format reflects Skoda’s strategic response to evolving market demands, where customer preferences increasingly lean toward versatile, multi-row vehicles.
Platform and Design Adaptations
A new platform is essential for the expanded model, with Skoda likely to utilise the MQB A0 37 platform. According to Skoda, the dimensions of the current Kushaq cannot be modified to accommodate additional rows comfortably, making a redesign necessary. This change would align Skoda with rivals that already offer both two-row and three-row configurations to meet varying customer needs. Brands like MG, Kia, Hyundai, Mahindra and Jeep have adopted this approach, with others, including Renault, Nissan, Maruti and Toyota, expected to follow suit over the coming years.
Targeting the Chauffeur-Driven Market
By introducing a three-row option, Skoda aims to appeal to a broader segment, particularly those seeking chauffeur-driven vehicles with ample rear-seat space. This model could cater both to customers who prioritise rear-seat comfort and those looking for an affordable, spacious people mover for families or groups.
Leveraging ‘Simply Clever’ Solutions
Known for its ‘Simply Clever’ design philosophy, Skoda could incorporate practical layout to enhance the third-row experience in the new Kushaq. The shift to a three-row configuration would represent Skoda’s first budget-friendly attempt at such a layout, giving it an opportunity to introduce innovative design solutions and provide competitive offerings in the crowded SUV market.
