Skoda is looking to launch the Karoq in India next year and will focus on increasing its sales network.
Skoda Auto is targeting a high amount of sales in India and a respectable share of the automobile market in the coming years. The company is looking to bring in a midsize SUV and a notchback in 2021 to boost its sales figures. The Czech automaker will launch the Karoq that will be slotted below the Kodiaq. Moreover, the company is working to double its distribution network in India which is in 54 cities with a total of 63 outlets.
The company aims to grab a specific share of the market and also take over the sales in the UK which is the fifth largest market for Skoda. They are currently focusing on the localisation of the products which will reduce the costs of ownership. This will give the company an edge as the vehicles of the company are considered premium.
Coming to the Skoda Karoq SUV, it sits right under the Kodiaq and is a 5-seater SUV. The Karoq is built on the MQB platform and takes some mechanical and technical bits from the Volkswagen Tiguan. The SUV will get a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine making 148 BHP and 250 Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre diesel engine which make 148 BHP/340 Nm. The transmission will include an option of a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG.
The Skoda Karoq is expected to be loaded with equipment as well as safety features which are a required norm now. Upon its launch, the Skoda Karoq will rival the likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Tata Harrier. There is no word on the pricing but expect the SUV to have a considerate price tag allowing it to garner sales.
