Skoda Kamiq spotted on test recently in India. It will make you think that it will be introduced soon in the country. However, the upcoming Skoda Vision IN, likely to be called Skoda Kliq is based on a similar platform as the Kamiq.
It doesn’t make sense for Skoda to introduce the Kamiq in India as it will heavily cannibalise the Skoda Kliq, both belonging to the same segment. The latter is based on slightly tweaked version of MQB A0 platform, which is called MQB A0 IN.
Skoda might be testing the Kliq under the skin of the Kamiq. In terms of styling, the Vision IN concept that we saw during the Auto Expo 2020 has some resemblance with the Kamiq. However, the Kliq will have sharper design elements and new interior design.
The MQB A0 IN platform offers longer wheelbase for better space and some revisions for cost cutting in Inda. The Kliq will get a higher ground clearance compared to the Kamiq.
It will be offered with a 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engine with 150 HP and 250 Nm. A smaller 1.0-litre TSI is also expected to be offered. Both 7-speed automatic DSG and 6-speed manual transmission options will be available.
The Skoda Kliq will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in India. The compact SUV is expected to hit the showrooms by mid-2021.
