The much awaited Skoda Kamiq has been revealed ahead of the upcoming Geneva Motor Show .
The new Kamiq that sits below the Karoq and Kodiaq in Skoda’s international line-up has been officially revealed after a long teaser campaign. Styling elements of the Kamiq have been borrowed by its elder siblings to maintain a resemblance between Skoda’s SUV offerings. The headlight arrangement has changed, with the slim upper clusters serving as the DRLs and doubling up as turn signals. The Kamiq’s boot has the Skoda badge in letters instead of the company’s logo, with sleek taillights featuring sequential turn signals.
The Skoda Kamiq SUV is underpinned by the VW Group’s MQB A0 platform. The SUV measures 4241 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2651 mm. The boot space on offer is 400-litres, but with the rear seats folded down, it extends up to 1395-litres. The interiors get a 9.2-inch infotainment system, with an optional 10.25-inch virtual cockpit. In terms of safety, it is equipped with front assist and lane assist as standard. Front assist includes city emergency braking and predictive pedestrian protection, thereby helping prevent accidents. It is also equipped with optional adaptive cruise control, 9 airbags, blindspot detection system, rear parking camera with sensors, rear traffic alert and handsfree parking.
The vehicle is available with two 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motors, with 95 BHP and 115 BHP tunes, and a 1.5 TSI turbo-petrol that produces 150 BHP. The diesel motor is a 1.6-litre TDI unit that gives out 115 BHP. The engines can be mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DSG. The car only features a front-wheel drive system, with an optional Sport Chassis Control, that lowers the ride height by 10 mm and includes adjustable shock absorbers.
There are no plans to launch the Skoda Kamiq in India in the near future, but if it does arrive on our shores, the launch won’t happen before 2020-21.
