The Skoda Kamiq GT is specifically for China as of now and is going to debut on 4th November.
Czech automaker Skoda has been wooing the entire industry for a while and now, they have released the sketches of the Kamiq GT – a sportier coupe-style crossover. It is the fifth crossover presented by Skoda in recent years.
The 2020 Skoda Kamiq GT takes a distinct and separate direction from the European spec Kamiq. Rather, it forms its basis on the Chinese version of the Kamiq. For instance, dual headlamps are replaced with just one headlight at each side. Similarly, the chunky tail lights are now replaced with narrower units, which look similar to that of the Skoda Scala.
According to the sketches, it gets a deep contour running across the sides, which flanks the new headlights from each side. The headlights are slimmer and the grille too looks much funkier. The real eye catcher here is the coupe-style roofline. It gets smaller D-pillars and a narrower rear window to endorse the entire theme.
Moving further, sketches of the interior aren’t available. However, it will be similar to its regular version with some sporty touches and of course, sport seats! Skoda claims that the collaboration between the home team in the Czech Republic and the one in China led to the design of this crossover. The Vision GT concept is the foundation of the design.
Once again, no information is there regarding the engine. We expect it to come with the same 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol unit that produces 150 PS of power. The unit is probably going to couple with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Perhaps, knowing that this is a sportier version, Skoda may provide it with something zestier.
Unfortunately, it is a China-only affair. The full reveal is going to happen on 4th November in Tianjin, China. If this is ever to come to India, Skoda may have an ‘up-game’ in the industry. Having said that, Mr. Zac Hollis, director of sales, service & marketing at Skoda India, asked on his Twitter account if the Indian market would be interested in the same. Here’s to hoping they make a wise decision.
